A letter from our CEO

“In a year of significant challenges, our commitment to responsible business practices and positive social impact has remained at the core of everything we do.”

Hostels

At the beginning of this year, we operated four hostels across Israel: Tel Aviv, Eilat, Jerusalem, and Nazareth, alongside our international locations in Manila and Bohol in the Philippines. However, due to the war and its impact on tourism in Israel, we had to close our hostels in Nazareth and Jerusalem.

In Nazareth, the absence of international tourism, combined with a decline in domestic visitors, forced us to suspend operations. We hope to resume our activities in the Old City of Nazareth in the future.

In Jerusalem, the halt in inbound tourism led to the hostel’s closure. The building has since been repurposed as a community-focused initiative in collaboration with Tene Yerushalmi, providing affordable, communal housing in the city center for students. This project now serves as a vibrant hub for young, engaged residents to foster cultural and social impact while preserving the Abraham spirit in Jerusalem.

Tours

Abraham Tlalim Tours is the joint tourism venture of Abraham Group and Tlalim Group, dedicated to socially conscious travel. We perform tours around Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank. Our tours provide in-depth exposure to the complexities of the Middle East and Israeli society, fostering meaningful engagement and positive impact on travelers and local communities alike.

We believe in the power of local perspectives. Our tours are led by local guides who share their personal stories, creating authentic and inspiring experiences. We engage with communities rather than simply talking about them, offering access to diverse narratives, religions, and places often difficult to reach independently. From border-region tours in the Gaza Envelope, to cultural and culinary experiences that support small businesses, and foraging tours that reconnect people with nature, we create opportunities for deeper understanding and connection. By partnering with local guides and businesses, we promote responsible tourism that connects people, amplifies unheard voices, and brings the region’s complexity to life.

GSTC – 2024, Abraham became the first tourism company in Israel to receive the GSTC certification from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. This certification recognizes organizations that meet the highest global standards for sustainable tourism, ensuring they adhere to strict sustainability criteria.

Achieving this certification was a significant journey. After a pre-audit assessment and the development and implementation of a Sustainable Management System, the final audit was delayed by war. Despite the challenges, we successfully completed the audit and were pleased to find that sustainability is already deeply embedded in our DNA, requiring only a few adjustments to achieve certification.

SDGs

The GSTC certification aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a global framework to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030.

Target 8.9 promotes sustainable tourism that creates jobs, supports local businesses, and preserves cultural heritage—principles that are at the core of our work.

Actions Implemented

Israel - Gaza War

The Abraham Tent: A Space for Healing and Resilience

Following the October 7th attack, thousands of young Israelis are mourning close friends and loved ones, often without formal recognition or support. In response, The Abraham Tent Program, launched by Abraham Group and Gvanim Association, provides a structured yet compassionate space for young adults in their 20s and 30s to process grief, build resilience, and find community. Recognized and supported by Israel’s National Insurance Institute, the program offers peer-led workshops, therapeutic discussions, and creative activities at Abraham Tel Aviv.

Since its launch, 460 participants have taken part in 40 support sessions, with the program’s impact studied by Hebrew University researchers and presented at an international resilience conference. Participant feedback underscores its significance: 4.7/5 for overall impact, 4.2/5 for grief processing, and an NPS of 4.8/5.

KPIs

Impact Tours

Despite the challenging year for tourism in Israel, we maintained our tour operations. We partnered with Tlalim to create Abraham-Tlalim Tours, expanding our reach to new audiences. This year, we introduced tours in the Gaza Envelope, supporting local businesses and artists, as well as promoting human connection and tolerance in other regions.

The significant decline in participants is mainly due to the lack of tourists caused by the war and the focus of our tours on topics related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which made this year particularly difficult.

Impact events

An impact event at our hostel is a focused activity aimed at creating positive change in sustainability, community engagement, art, and social responsibility, often in collaboration with local organizations and NGOs.

This year, despite the challenges, we made a special effort to host events that directly addressed the situation in Israel—ranging from events for reservists to those supporting peace initiatives. This reflects our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful connections and supporting important causes during these times.

women employment

This year’s reduction in the percentage of women employed is mainly due to the closure of our hostels in Jerusalem and Nazareth, where a higher proportion of women were employed. As we grow, we are committed to increasing the number of women in our workforce, as outlined in the Actions section.

Diverse Workforce

Diversity – foreigners, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and 50+.

Although the total number of employees decreased due to the war, we’ve maintained 51% employees from diverse backgrounds, up from 48% last year, reflecting our commitment to diversity.

Our commitment to fair employment is reflected in our gender pay gap, which remains well below both the global tourism and Israeli economy averages. While gaps still exist at higher management levels, we continue working towards greater pay equity across all positions

OUTSOURCED EMPLOYEES

We believe in direct employment and strive to avoid subcontracting whenever possible.

SMEs Supported

The decline in procurement from SMEs at Abraham between 2021-2022 was largely due to the COVID-19 crisis, which led to business closures and made it difficult to place large orders with SMEs due to concerns over reliability.

In 2023-2024, the impact of the war further contributed to the decrease, with some businesses closing and the need to reduce expenses, limiting our ability to prioritize impact considerations in supplier selection as we had in the past.

We are committed to recovering from this crisis and returning to prioritizing procurement from small businesses once again.

carbon footprint

This year, we saw a drastic reduction in our carbon footprint due to a significant decline in overall activity caused by the war, as well as our transition to 100% renewable energy at our hostel in Eilat.

This is based on an un-audited model, with partial scope 3 emissions.

The discrepancy between the measurements in 2021 and 2022 is explained by the emergence from the pandemic and the resumption of international tourism activities, which increased our activity levels and consequently our ecological footprint as well.

In 2023, we started monitoring energy, water, occupancy, and air conditioning to find savings and improvement opportunities. We integrated a Carbon Offsetting system into bookings and plan a precise carbon footprint measurement with an external verifier in the future.

Your resilience and dedication inspire us to keep moving forward, building a more sustainable and responsible future.

We close this report with a heartfelt hope for brighter days and the safe return of all the hostages.

We remain grounded, supporting local businesses and preserving the environment. Our hostels and tours promote dialogue, tolerance, and unity, while also advocating for equality and democracy.

Our vision is to be an important leading regional tourism group, an efficient and profitable company, whose actions have an impact and create a positive change in the environment in which we operate, while promoting values that are important to us.

עובד אחזקה

Dear Friends and Partners,

In a year of significant challenges, our commitment to responsible business practices and positive social impact has remained at the core of everything we do.

This year, we are proud to share two major milestones that reinforce our dedication to sustainability and social responsibility.

Abraham Group became the first and only company in Israel to receive the highest standard for sustainable tourism from the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC)—a recognition of our continuous efforts to lead the industry toward a more responsible future.

In addition, we initiated one of our most meaningful projects to date: “Processing Grief for Bereaved Friends”, in collaboration with Gvanim Association.

This program addresses one of Israel’s most pressing challenges, offering a vital space for healing and support with a profound impact that aligns directly with our vision and values.

I am honored to present this year’s Impact Report, which highlights these achievements alongside our broader efforts in sustainable tourism, community engagement, and long-term impact initiatives.

As we look ahead, we remain committed to driving meaningful change and proving that business success and social responsibility go hand in hand.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in shaping a better, more sustainable future together.

With gratitude,

Gilad Shauloff
CEO, Abraham Group
